MISC BERRY ISLAND PICS, Winter 2012-13

After arriving at Great Harbor Cay on the northern end of the Berry Island chain without an engine on January 24, we just decided to chill out here for a month and try to get our wits about us again. We've always loved the secludedness of the Berrys. Not many people come here, so that's a big part of its charm. The hiking here is unsurpassed and so is the dink fishing. The pics don't follow any particular theme or order, but neither do our lives here. Every day is like . . . whatever . . .
Along the eastern side of Great Harbor Cay lies 7 miles of unbelievably beautiful beachfront. We almost NEVER meet another soul.
At low slack tide we like to wade a half mile across the bonefish flats and across Shark Creek to Hawknest Cay. Time is limited, however, unless we want to swim back.
When is the last time you saw a baby manatee nursing its mom? A seacow's teat is underneath her pectoral flipper, aka armpit.

Lobster Habitats - We'd never seen these used before this year

Seven mile hike to the northern end of Great Harbor Cay, where you have a view of the Cruise Ships' Stirrup Cay just across the cut.

On February 20, 2013 we departed Great Harbor Cay on the northern end of the Berry Island chain and set sail for the all day crossing of the Northwest Providence Channel, 65 nautical miles to the northwest for the island of Grand Bahama.
